I used to have my websites hosted with these guys mainly because they have amazing prices.
The issues I had was my website being intermittent (going up and down), having email problems etc.
I eventually decided to move to a company called Deepbluehosting, who are a little more expensive but I've only needed to contact them once and the response time was fantastic.
I did have afew hours of downtime once bu that was because they had to physically move all of the servers, which they did provide us with plenty of notice and did it at a time that was very convenient.
So it is a good idea sometimes to go with a slightly more expensive option, but with better quality of service both by the servers and the sales/support staff.

Worst expereince in my life. They completely lost emails to me. They admitied it. Bounce a queue with my emails on them (and probally 100's of other emails from other users). They asked me what the problem was? Email is working now. Contact the people sending you emails and tell them to resend.

Just left websitesource today worst customer service. They deleted my account without warning. I've been with other hosts and they would at least give notice (sometimes I get so busy I can't remember it all). Instead of apologizing for their mistake they wrote me stating I need to start checking my bulk mail, and make sure I have corrected contact information on their site. I wrote them stating it would of been more respected to just apologize for their simple mistake. Then their ticketing area never works. I waited almost 2 weeks for a response in some assistance that I needed. Just for them to tell me to re-write them and start sending it manually. They have yet to fix this. But one thing positive I can say at least SSL comes with the hosting automatically.

Been a WSS customer since 1999, and have to agree with the complaints seen here; my was site down a week in March, lost emails, no one answers when you called in...all the usual problems seen here. Been with Hostmonster for three months now and what an amazing difference!! It just made me realize how bad WSS had become. Its sad, as they used to be very good.

Websitesource blows. Buyer beware. They got bought out by some lame company called Alentus and it's been all downhill from there. I've been with them for 5 years, time to move on from this one. I highly recommend that you avoid this company. Take it from a former customer, they're not the same anymore. I'll be VERY surprised if they're still around by the end of the year the way they have been treating customers. Don't buy their 99% uptime BS. You'd be lucky if your site is running more than 50% with these guys. I imagine the new owners cut most of the old staff members or the old members just cashed out and left the company. The current staff is impossible to deal with and they give you no warning when taking your site down.

BEWARE!!! WORST HOSTING COMPANY EVER!!! There was a period of 3 weeks last month where tech support NEVER answered the phone. Tech support live chat was always offline. Trouble tickets were NOT answered. I called the billing department asking them what the deal was and that I was very angry my site was down, she immediately transfered me to tech support even after i said tech support would not answer the phone! I couldn't believe how bad and rude they were. I estimate they cost me thousands during the time I was down. They're abosolutely terrible and give customers no warning when they take your sites down. They're always giving the excuse "we're upgrading servers" when things are down. Give me a break, after each upgrade, your site is still running slow. BTW, I was paying $90 a month for a VPS account, so I wasn't short changing them by any means. It ran worse than an average regular shared hosting plan. I cancelled my account with them and moved over to another company, and my site is running 10X faster. What's funny is after I moved my site, and I logged into my control panel at websitesource, according to the panel, my site was still using 171% of the server resources!! Keep in mind, I wasn't even getting traffic since I already moved!! Amazing. Go somewhere else and save yourself a headache. I lost plenty of sleep being a customer with these douchebags.

I moved like greased lightening to godaddy as websitesource.com sucks big time. I could not get hold of anybody at customer services and it took a 10 days to get a reply to a ticket. Ironically now that I have left them, I finally got this message from them today.

I have had it finally. I am moving on, I looked at godaddy but they didn't have dedicated servers with enough additional IPS. Anyway I went with 1and1. I called their tech support team to see if anyone would answer and wow at 1and1 they do. I called again on saturday as a test, They did. Anyway, I started moving stuff over, my control panel at websitesource has been down for for 4 days now making it very very difficult to do though. I have left so many phone calls and left so many messages and tickets at website source that it is a joke. I called the new parent company, same thing, no answers.
Email is still not working at website source, it has been down for 11 days now for my customers.
All my sites are down, only 1 day so far in the last 3 days, so they are improving. haha.
OK back to work moving everything out of websitesource.

After being with them for about 5 years I have seen them go down at a steady pace. We do our invoicing through our site and we were unable to bill customers in the field about 50 percent of thetime due to the site being down.

I must say they finall did something right. They acknowledged our cancellation request and refunded us the balance on our account after we switched to Godaddy.

Our web site hosted by websitesource.com has been up and down like a ruddy yo-yo and despite sending them tickets they take a week to reply, you cannot contact them by phone because all you can do is leave messages. I have left numerous messages even to cancel my account and nobody returns my calls. They are restricting themselves to answering tickets only and if they ae taking a week to respond, then there clearly must be thousands of disgruntled customers out there. I am now in the middle of migrting to godaddy who in contrast to websitesource are proving to be excellent. Walk away from website source.com before you lose site visitors and business. They are not worth the effort.

I have probably been a member longer than most. It may even be 10 years. I am trying to remember if I had themin 99 or not, however, back then, everyone recommended them. They know I have a (very) legacy account, and I also own a common name domain, so at one time, they even agreed to filter all spam and catch all *before* hitting where I was hosted so that the spam would not put me over my bandwidth cap every single month in about one week's time. (The tech's first thought I was being DDOSed but then their jaws dropped when they saw the e-mail stats) They used to give me this for free since I should not have to pay for mail I am purposefully rejecting (as in, any mail going to a non-active address, even if you have the catch all turned off, it still counts against your bandwidth, but most people never notice). The problem was made worse by the fact that because of this, the wrong e-mails were not bouncing. They were nice to give me this service for free, but then they "changed". I don't know what happened but everything went down the tubes. They changed from Postini to something else, and then began charging me for it WITHOUT NOTICE! They were fully aware that I was not using the service as it was being sold, it was a hack to prevent all the catch all spam from wasting all my bandwidth in a few days time. I called and could not get through. This was new, I used to always get through. I could only get to billling. They wanted me to write a long e-mail to "plead" for the use of their Can-It as a way to stop the catch all spam BUG in their system, I had to or keep taking the extra cost which they would not refund.

It was almost as if the company was being run by one woman. She seemed to be involved in everything and nowhere in the company could I be directed (in the US) did I not run into her. I think she was hired to do cost cutting measures. Live chat knows nothing and won't tell you what they do know because it is chat and not the phone, but thy don't answer the phone or e-mail.

I am not sure what to do. I know some people in europe paying a quarter of what I am and have almost unlimited bandwidth. This must be a WSS thing, it can't be all American companies like this, can it? If you asked me 4 years ago, I would have said yes. 10 years ago I would have said hell yes due to all the database and script support, but now, I can't. There is really nothing that makes WSS stand out among te crowd.

Every review here is SPOT ON! Had Websitesource for 6 years, and I ALWAYS had some kind of issue with their service. But now, it is almost as if we are ALL being scammed. I have a full web business that feeds my family and the site goes down several times per day,sometimes for hours. I have literally called them this week over 300 times, left dozens of voice messages, left a message with a supervisor, wrote numerous help desk tickets, tried hundreds of times to connect to their online chat, I even went as far as faxing them a letter in 18 font. NOTHING!!

I think we should all get together to file a class action lawsuit against them and Alentus (the company that bought them).

DO NOT USE WEBSITESOURCE... THEY ARE THE WORST HOSTING COMPANY IMAGINABLE.

A great company (where I have 50 other smaller sites) is 1 & 1 Internet. They have great pricing, they are hardly ever down, but the support kinda stinks (although they ALWAYS answer the phone... but, in India). If you don't require a lot of support, 1 & 1 is great. They just don't have the kind of packages that I need for my main site... so, I'll be looking for another host tomorrow. Good luck to me, and to everyone else who got screwed by this POS company.

I agree with the latest posts. I have been with WSS for over 5 years and the last year has been horrible. The down time and workarounds they put customers through is a nightmare lately. Another peev for me is the apps they offer aren't ever updated.

1) Frequent outages (ie 2-4 times per week) that last anywhere from 10 minutes to several hours.

Absolute nightmare. Stay away. Site was completely down for 1/2 day after data center migration, webmail stopped working and still hasn't been fixed 1 week later. Nor have I received any response from them for days. FrontPage extensions stopped working after the migration and are still not working and access to them from the control panel disappeared so there is no way to reinstall. So without that the forms aren't working properly for several days now and haven't heard anything back in several days despite many pleas. No one can be reached by phone, chat or email. This is obviously being very poorly managed. Stay far away. You will lose your business if you use this company.

Ive been with them for 4 years, and HAVE TO MOVE NOW. For 3 years they were great - fast and helpful support, little downtime, but in the last 8 months, it's been like a nightmare. Non-existent support, offhandish, excuse-laden responses.
They've changed ownership, and obviously that's at the root of the problem, they've been bought by alentus.com.
They will destroy my business, their servers are SO BAD and huge downtime. like another said, website totally inaccessible for hours if not days at a time. It's pretty unbelievable. Ive already set up an account at hostgator, and host a few sites there - its a different universe. 24/7 super-helpful live chat, websites never down. Problem is that I have websites with around 10 connected databases and its going to be a complete headache trying to move whole ecommerce shops. I have been with WSS for five years, but the last six months have been disgraceful.

The site has been unobtainable most weekends, and during the migration I too lost three websites and numerous subdomains.

Yesterday the site went down for maintenance and today it's up but I can't upload graphics and the support ticket section is down too.

I'm going to have to move, reluctantly but I'm tired of all the excuses.

In their partial defense, I had some corrupt server files and was able to rebuild it. BUT I didn't think that it was something like that because they have issues every week and when I would try to do a task it would tell me they are upgrading services. Still have e-mail issues. I never heard from tech support via im, email, or phone in 12+hrs. All extensions are unanswered including billing and sales. No excuse for that.

During that time the did do a update to their home page, they put a stock ticker on it.....

Once again I will say, I am leaving but was with them for 5yrs, until recently they were wonderful. Hopefully they will get their act together and take care of their remaining customers.

Since my last review, I've been down 2 more times. I am currently down with no tech support available. Their billing system goofed and shut down accounts for future bills (bills that haven't been issued or due) and now my server is down, I can't restart it. ETC. My word of advice, stay away!

They used to be a great host, but I think those days are over.

Website Source is down yet again. Of course contacting anyone there is nearly impossible. I wonder if they're going out of business. How on earth can a hosting company's own HOME PAGE be down?

I wish I were more tech savvy as I have to switch hosting providers and get my domains away from WSS as soon as possible.

They don't charge much but then again, you DON'T even get what you pay for.

I have to concur. I had one outage in the prior 6 years and NONE for the four before that. The one outage was a fire in the hosting center. Since migration I've had 4 outages, that's inside of one year.

They have been down since sometime Friday night (US EST). I'm trying to call them and get their voicemail. It seems like their entire site is down. I am extremely unhappy and will likely change providers if I don't get some immediate help from them. This is the last straw with their increasingly bad service.

I've been with WSS for at least 5yrs too on a VPS. They used to be great! Over the last few months (6 or so) I've been down more than the whole time I've been with WSS. Email issues, DNS, blocking ports and not giving notice, billing issues, server issues, etc. I know it's because of the merger, I've spoken to one of the reps but we are way past the date they felt they would have their act together.

WSS used to be good and I had been with them for more than 5 years. I had more than 10 websites. Unfortunately from 4th Qtr 2008, their service had been getting bad. In Jan/Feb 2009, they moved my host servers without informing me and caused severe disruption to my websites. At the same time they reassigned my IP#s which had been rated as poor reputation by my mail servers and all my emails from the website has been blocked. Just BAD BAD BAD horrible horrible horrible I am definitely recommeding against WSS - stay clear of them

Horrible, horrible, horrible. Two weeks ago they did a server migration and deleted our domain and all of our files. At first they did not want to tell us what happened, and have yet to apologize or offer us any kind of compensation. We have been with websitesource for over 5 years. In the beginning they were wonderful, our site was always up and support was very responsible. Not sure what the problem is now, but suffice to say we are moving our site to another host.

I've been using WebsiteSource for around 8 years.

This morning both my sites and the accompanying email service were down, and their own website(WSS) as well... and i couldn't get ahold of anyone there to explain or give me an ETA. i started at 730.. and didn't get through till 1020... all i got was no answer, or the party is not available to take your call. They could have at the very least left a blanket voice response in their phone system acknowledging that they were having difficulty and were working on it... I thought maybe they were abducted...

The last two years have been pretty annoying. Lots of problems , email issues , dns problems , etc... I have wasted countless hours.
I am going to say...this may not be an entirely accurate figure as i haven't done the math... but 1 - 2% downtime... at least. that doesn't sound like a lot... but do the math.. thats like 4 - 7 whole days without service over the course of a year...and i am only counting business day working time... not nights and weekends that were discovered the next day...

I am very patient, and I realize i have an inexpensive plan. but, they sold me that plan , with the promise of a level of service they agreed to, and now they are embarrassing me... I'm the one that looks bad here when the site and email are down... I will try to work with them again today, but, I think I need to find a more reliable option.

I used the IYD.COm for years at 10.95 as they recommended , then they sold to hoovers and the site looks awful and they want 15 bucs per year and told me i am getting a preferred rate after i told them i was paying 10.95 LOL.

I have been with websitesource since about 2001. Up until this past year, I thought they were an outstanding hosting company. I don't know what happened to them, but they have now become one of the worst hosting companies in operation. Far too often, my websites are non-operational and their customer support is terrible. I have five websites hosted by WSS and will begin moving all of them in the upcoming weeks.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from Websitesource!

I have been with them for more than four years, and have gradually been moving my sites to other hosting services. I only have one site left with them and surprise! It's down again. Their entire site is down. When I file a support ticket, I get a canned response that doesn't address the issue almost two weeks later. Essentially, there is NO support. They used to be very good, but I think they got too big to handle their clientele. All the bells and whistles and cheap rates in the world don't mean anything if you your site isn't up.

When I first joined website source a few years ago, they were a decent affordable option.

This year has been AWFUL. I run an ecommerce site through them, and my site has gone down constantly over the past few months, especially on the weekends. My weekend orders were once my bread and butter, but have dropped significantly. It's almost like they are trying to get rid of my business. They are down as we speak, 3 days before Christmas (and so is their own website)!...their own website goes down quite often and for extended periods of time. You can take that for what it's worth.

They disabled SSH, SFTP and I cannot use FTP either from linux shell -- the web interface for uploading files is not something I am willing to work with.

SSH access is the one big criteria for me to choose web hosting service and they breached the contract a month after I had paid my annual fees. There is no way I will stay with websitesource -- let's see if I get the money back I paid for something that they did not end up providing.

In addition their customer service essentially inexistent:
Phone: "The party you have called is not available" is the answer to every possible selection.
Chat: No one ever answers and the chat window closes without ever getting connected to anyone.
Email Tickets: One curt and nearly useless answer after which the ticket was immediately closed, and any additional emails remained unanswered.

Also domain name management was not managed in a helpful way so that I eventually lost a domain name.

Many problems with their email access that were never resolved, and other communication issues.

STAY AWAY!!!!

I just came back to check on the reviews since they got back to me after their downtime earlier this week. They said they had come under a DOS attack, whatever that is. I give them positive marks and I am not an employee of their company as Chris suggests. They have also implemented a RSS feed at http://www.WSSnews.net to keep customers updated about any issues they might be having. Their support was unresponsive the other day during their "attack" but once they had it resolved, a flood of messages came into me from support to make sure I was taken care of. No complaints from here...

This hosting services provider should be treated with extreme caution. There seem to be no end of delighted customers all reinforcing the company's own boasts of 99.999% uptime, brilliant security, etc. etc. etc.

I suspect the positive reviews are from employees of the compnay desperate to keep their flagging business alive.

I agree that several years ago this company represented exccellent value for money and decent customer service. Uptime was acceptable too.

But here we are in 2008 and things are very, very different. To get anyhwere near a 99.9% uptime, a site cannot be down for more than 7 or 8 hours in A YEAR!! Websitesource's own web site has been down 16 to 20 hours this month to my knowledge - it could be more. Couple this fact with the absolute lack of customer support when the company is experiencing internal issues (like yesterday 11/25/2008 for instance), and you have a below standard web provider who must be losing customers at an alarming rate. (I move my buisness away from them in 2005 but I still have clients who use this lamentable product).

A company is as good as its last month's performance - how good you were in 2000 has no bearing on how good you are in 2008.

In 2008 websitesource is inadequate, poorly managed, has questionable ethics, and, in my opinion, a very short life expectancy.

If you host with websitesource, get out as soon as you can!!

wow... I've been with websitesource for several years now, can't remember how many. I have at least a dozen sites hosted with them. One of them is monitored by a 3rd party service for uptime and it's up 100% or 99.. % everytime I look at a report. They've recently been bought out by another company and I would say that their support is not as quick as it used to be but when they do get to you, it's quite good. I'm having an issue at the moment but it's something I can live with. Their entire site appears to be down and this is most unusual. Given the fact that they have been excellent in the past, I'm not giving up on them...

I had great hopes for WebsiteSource. I like the features they offer with their hosting package and the accessibility and customization of those features.

BUT, after moving several of my clients there, we are all having continuous problems with our emails.

Emails get lost, emails get bounced, we all get server errors when trying to access our emails. The problems never end. I really wish they could get this part of their business together.

I would be glad to pay a bit more and have stable services. But can't keep my sites there until they do.

Been hosted with them for over a year and a half, so far I have had no reason to deal with tech support so have no experiance there.

As for up time it has been down twice that I know of and both times they emailed before hand saying that the website would be down x hours.

Their email works a bit differently once I figured it out though I have had no trouble with it.

I have not come close to using all of the resources my package provides, but so far they are the best deal that I have found anywhere on the net and so far they have not bothered me about anything so I am very happy with them.

This provider seems to have had generally poor reviews, but I can thoroughly recommend ‘42 Developments’. Two great web builder products which allow you to build ecommerce sites, blogs discussion groups etc. with no technical expertise. Unlimited bandwidth/web space and mysql databases. Great programming support (PHP, Perl, mysql etc.) for the more technically savy with over £300 of free software. Good high spec servers and internet connections too. Very good ticket based support.

The positive comments posted here MUST be from an internal source because websitesource is the WORST. As I write this the whole service is down.

Terrible! My patience has worn off... Site is down few hours every week ...Control Panel is slow and half time shows 'file can't not be found!' ...Every time I complain - Customer Service tries to push me to more expensive package...Here's an idea ...How the hell are they going to handle more expensive larger package if they can't handle smaller one when customer has never exceeded any limitations in traffic or disc quote...I'm going to switch its been going on for too long...I'm writing it here and now because not only my site is down now , but whole damn websitesource is down...again!

Had them for about 4 months.
Suspended my account TWICE.
One time for "too many people on the website." Who does that? They suspended FULL access to my account so I couldn't even take my files out. They told me to get VPS. That's the only way, apparantly.
Second time, after telling them I did not get 4 million page hits a day which their retard traffic stats program said, they suspended me because one person said there was a virus on my site and that I was using up too many resources. Tell me how a forum uses up too many resources.

Very Very Very Bad indeed, been with them for two years now, 1 years with no problems but recently only problem. they change thing without warning, have me to rewrite several website, make me lost lot of time and lot of client, 've even lost my DB once, and they couldn't retrieve it. 4 month of work lost, client unhappy and suing me. A NIGHTMARE.
Never ever go with them.

My experience has been an overall nightmare for the past 2 1/2 years, I want to like them as im loyal and mostly the 24hr chat support people ive had to get to know like family are friendly however the servers are down for one reason or another literally every month, sometimes every week, sometimes for days at a time, and i have multiple VPS accounts with them... its driven me insane, ive lost hair and has cost me a fortune. My wifes sick of hearing about it let alone clients who want my blood however i cant get their death threats as the email servers are dead too :|

My experience: slow servers and FTP access that is sometimes unavailable for hours for no reason. Made my job of building a web site for a client that chose this hosting company extremely frustrating. Tech support was no help during FTP outages.

Besides, I hate hosting companies that put a limit on monthly traffic: robbers!!!!!

I have hosted with website source for 6 years and it has been a terrible experience. Their support staff gives out wrong information all the time and won't take responsibility. Their billing department is VERY rude. The site is down 10% of the time. They don't honor their 99.9% uptime guarantee. Don't even think about hosting an ASP site on their servers. It RARELY works, and they don't monitor the ASP service, so you have to call and tell THEM that their ASP service has stopped running. And when they fix it, their attitude is "oh well." It's working now. If you ever do a live chat with support you MUST keep copies because they will deny everything. Emails don't get answered. Their control panel ticket system doesn't work. Don't return phone calls. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE like hostmonster.com

Also, I was an affiliate and never saw a dime after the first referral. I couldn't log in either. Their marmarketing control panel disappeared one day without warning. Do yourself a favor and

Very good hosting company. The best. I been with 5 companys before, i´m really dificult and exigent. But websitesource, is the best of all. The costumer service is great, Jake, Kelly, Juan, Julio, Jacob... all great. I trust in they.

I'm admin at one of the sites hosted with websitesource and the server performance been really terrible for some time now. If we don't contact them to tell them their is a problem, they do not act on them. More often then none we had to tell them of problems with their server and we get the impression they are BS'ting us when they respond. It stinks having to relocate to another host, it really does, esp if you have big sites. We have both shared and a vps accounts and it's always same issues, they do not notice problems, we have to actually tell them they have problems, which is enough of a sign they do not monitor their own server. really disappointed with their bad performance.

I used them for a bit and then decided to go to providerwebhosting.org because they were giving away free domain names. I may keep my account here as well though

This host is crap! I was with them for 2 years and 2 years too long!

Had my site down more times than I can count. So I switched to an overcharged VPS which also gave me tons of problems. They kept "switching" me to different servers saying this person had this installed causing my sites problems, etc etc etc. I've lost $1000's because their email functions were down and my sites were down, even on VPS!

I would steer clear from these guys and try someone else.

Yeah, you can chat with them but you can also chat with anyone on the web, chatting "support" doesn't mean good support.

They suck!

I've used Websitesource for 2 years.

o My site has had several outages, including one that lasted for days.

o I get the impression that if I would not have contacted them about my site being down, they wouldn't have done anything.

o We have had problems with email reliability as well.

o Websitesource hasn't kept pace with competitors in terms of what they charge for what they give.

o Support has been very frustrating, and more often than not I'm going around in circles with someone who hardly speaks English and doesn't even understand what the problem is, much less how to solve it.

o Support gets insulted and mad at you when THEY don't get it right.

I've only had problems with Website Source. Pop emails don't download frequently because they have "DNS problems", hours of downtime, I finally quit when on one of these downtimes, I lost $1000 on AdWords sending people to a website that was down... too bad.

Horrible. Also the second worse host I've ever had and I've had some bad ones too. Totally overloaded. Down weekly, for hours at a time. Do the "live chat", what a joke, no one answers for hours, when they do they say stupid things like "please give us the email addresses of people you expect to hear from today"!!! down again today, one week later, for four hours now... live chat no response, call tech support it's busy busy busy, when I finally got through it's a message "we're having DNS issues"

time to quit!!!

Please whatever you do stay way from the Johns’ in MIDPHASE.COM. It looks like everyone’s name is defaulted to JOHN because they donot want you know their really name. MIDPHASE IS RUN BY RUSSIAN MAFIA. THEY SELL YOUR DATABASE INFO.
Since I had exceeded my shared host capacity, I decided to try midphase.Com. This was a nightmare; the support team with admins call JOHN was all incompetent. They were never able to provide me a server that does not have issues.
After so many issues, question about there so call 24x7 supports (this is a lie there is NO 24x7 support from MIDphase), 3 days with no site, I decided to cancel.
I was later convincing by another admin call JOHN to keep my account with them. I did and the 4 days after everything was looking good my site was down. Basically, these thieves requested my server credentials so they can have access to my server, then download my database and file just the later close my account.

Second worse host I've ever had and I've had some bad ones. Totally overloaded. I swithed sql servers three times on the promise things would get better. Tonight I can't even log in to see whats going on. Terrible.

This is my second year there. Not like I don't have a track record to speak about. Good support, poor guys. To bad they don't have a stable system to stand behind.

They are cheap, but you get what you apy for.

Exellent hosting company. Best support that I ever see. You can get in touch with support at any time by livechat. I host my sites with this company almost 2 years and i'm very happy.
